GBR Adult Rowing Pathways
We belive that rowing is a sport for everyone, and strive to provide a seat in a boat for all adults eager to try something new, or get back into something they once enjoyed! Our Adult Rowing Pathways system allows us to guide adults through their rowing journey with GBR, whether you are just starting out or have years of experience. Adult athletes are anyone 18+ who have graduated from high school.
Tier One – Learn to Row
Adult Learn to Row 1 – Exposure
Introducing adult athletes to rowing in a safe, welcoming, low-pressure environment focused on familiarity, confidence, and enjoyment. The course focuses on sculling with some exposure to sweep rowing.
Adult Learn to Row 2 – Development
Athletes will develop consistency, confidence, and foundational technique while increasing independence and endurance. The course focuses on sculling with continued exposure to sweep rowing.
Adult Learn to Row 3 – Competency
Athletes will gain sufficient competency in sculling and sweep rowing to prepare them for successful transition into masterโs level rowing programs.
Adult athletes may also choose to remain in Level 3.
Tier Two – Masters Rowing
Logbook Sculling
Athletes will pass a captains test and gain access to club boats for independent rowing.
Masters Recreational Team
Athletes will row for fitness, camaraderie, and general wellness in team boats, accompanied by a coach. This program is intended for an experienced adult athlete who does not wish to train for racing at any point.
Masters Competitive Development Team
Athletes who have an interest in racing will build the skills and fitness necessary to meet the standards of the competitive racing team. Athletes on the Development Team will have occasional racing opportunities at local events, but the primary focus is training.
Tier Three – Masters Racing
Masters Competitive Racing Team
Athletes who meet physical and techincal skill standards will train for competition in both sculling and sweep boats. Athletes will race primarily during the Summer (sprints) and Fall (head race), with occasional scrimmages during the Spring. Experienced coxswains are always welcome!
